I first met Primitivo when we were both in second grade in Cloudcroft. His family had moved to the U.S. from Mexico and he didn't speak a word of English. There was no such thing in those days as bilingual ed, so learning English and keeping up with the class was a pretty steep learning curve. In what seemed like an instant, he had mastered the language and was (to my dismay) vying with me for the best grades in the class! It was coincidence that we both wound up moving to Alamogordo and graduating from AHS.
Primi was not only smart -- he was a genuinely nice person. I was very saddened to hear of his passing.
