"2 Alamogordo Men Killed in Accident"

ALAMOGORDO (AP) - Two Alamogordo men died early Sunday in a traffic accident on U.S. 70 about 22 miles east of Ruidoso.  State Police identified the victims as Carlos Brusuelas and Sammy Ray Malone.  Both were 19.  Officers said the vehicle, driven by Brusuelas, ran off the roadway and overturned.  Both were thrown from the vehicle, officers said.

"Double Rites For Crash Victims" / "Services Scheduled Tomorrow"

Double funeral services are planned tomorrow for two Alamogordo young men who died early Sunday in the crash of an automobile in which they were riing on U.S. 70 some 22 miles east of Ruidoso.  Victims of the crash, killed when the car went off the road and overturned, were Sammy Ray Malone and Carlos M. Brusuelas, both 19.  Both were thrown from the vehicle

Rosary will be recited tonight at 7:30 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and funeral mass will be conducted at the church tomorrow at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Ralph Barrange.  Interment will be made in Catholic Cemetery here. Friends may call at the Mullins-Hamilton Funeral Home until 5 p.m. today.

Pallbearers for Malone will include Wesley Erwin, Eddie Pacheco, Gilbert Malone, Mike Godinz, Stevie Malone and Ronnie Blake, and honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Valle, Bruce Blanchard, Richard Malone, Danny Knight, Danny Haas and Bebo Lee.

Brusuelas' bearers will be Reyne Roman, Dickie McWhirter, Brad Hall, Vicente Coyazo, Dobbie Hickson and Ronnie Vega and honorary pallbearers will include Henry, Nick Jr., Johnny, Pete Jr. and Larry Brusuelas and Richard Sainz.

A lifelong resident of Alamogordo, Brusuelas was born Oct. 2, 1951.  He attended local schools, was a 1970 graduate of Alamogordo High School, and operated a local service station. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam D. Brusuelas, of 600 Texas Ave.; one brother, Sammy Brusuelas, Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Lina B. Duran; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Benancia Brusuelas of Tularosa.

Also, a native Alamogordan and lifelong resident, Malone was born July 1, 1951, attended local schools and was a 1969 AHS graduate.  He was a second-year student at New Mexico State University, and was spending a week's vacation at home at the time of the fatal accident.  He was a member of the NMSU Rodeo Assn. and was a former member of the Otero County Junior Rodeo Assn.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Malone of 410 Cuba Ave.; one brother, Manuel Malone, Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Pete Preciado and Miss Virginia Malone; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Maria Malone and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Felicita Valle, all of Alamogordo.

Carlos passed away March 21, 1971 in a tragic motor vehicle accident.  I sadly remember getting permission to miss classes to attend the funeral.
