Lloyd Alphonso Silva

Lloyd was born March 7, 1953 and passed away while serving in the US Army on September 22, 1972.  It is reported that he died of an injury not 'battle' related.  Cause of death unknown at this time.

Rosary services for Lloyd Alphonso Silva, 19, will be recited tonight at the Hamilton Funeral Home chapel at 7:30 P.M.

Last rites will be conducted Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  The Rev. Jose Saez will conduct the services with interment scheduled at Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the services will be Alvino Duran, John Zschiebsch, Steve Myers, Steve Sheffer, Chuck Telles and Paul Gaylord.

Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9 p.m.

A native of Alamogordo, the youth was born here March 7, 1953 and died early Thursday morning at the family home at 1204 Sixteenth St.

Educated in the local schools, he was on leave from the U.S. Army pending a medical discharge at the time of his death.

He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Silva; two brothers, Fred, Jr. of Andrews, Tex. and Joe Edward Silva of Albuquerque; two sisters, Mrs. J. O. Serna of Alamogordo and Mrs. Lewis Jennings of Waverly, VA; and his grandfather, Beningo Gallegos of Tularosa.

I remember Lloyd wearing tennis shoes, jeans and a mickey mouse t-shirt playing a black Les Paul and smiling that Eddie Van Halen smile... he probably would have gone far.  He died chasing the dragon - our loss.

I played in a band with Lloyd. One helluva guitar player and a good heart. RIP Lloyd.
