In Memory

Kelton Roberts

Kelton Roberts

Kelton Lee Roberts, born on December 30, 1953, passed away in El Paso, TX, February 23, 2007, in New Mexico.

Submitted from Mike Turri:  After High School, I went into the Navy and lost contact with Kelton for a few years.  We met back up again in San Diego while I was out there for my last 2 years in the Navy.  We all got back to NM after my discharge, but within a year we were back on the 'Left Coast' living and working in the Santa Barbara area.  The California craziness got to be too much for me, so I split and moved to Las Cruces.  At that point, I only saw Kelton every couple of years.  I saw him in Cloudcroft at a Memorial Day party the year before he died.  At the time he was living in Rodeo, NM with his wife, Carol.  They had some land way the heck out in the middle of nowhere.  He was doing inspection work for oil refineries in El Paso.  Kelton never outgrew the party-hardy mentality and that lifestyle is what took him down.  Very sad!

I remember Kelton very well.  He had an amazing wit and sense of humor.  Called our geography class "Advanced Coloring".  Pretty sure he was living in Las Cruces when he died - in 2009 I think.  RIP Kelton.  Hugs.  Anne

Kel, The only person in the history of the Alamo Public School System who took Spanish in school and was actually able to speak it. Was fluent when he was in the 9th grade.

Had a lot of good times with him in Cruces in 1971-72.  He was 17, looked like he was 14 or 15 and acted like he was 30.

I always thought we would cross paths again.

May the road rise up to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

the rains fall soft upon your fields,

and, until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
